FAQ

How many artworks can I submit?

You are welcome to enter up to 5 pieces for this year’s show.

How many images can I submit for each piece?

You can submit up to 5 images per piece.

Can I submit performance work?

We want to encourage any form that your art takes – a performance could be documented with video or audio, through photographs or simply with a detailed proposal/description.

Can I submit site-specific or off site work?

Yes – again, preferably with a detailed proposal and documentation or examples.

My work may have a complicated install; can you accommodate for that?

Yes – as long as it can fit through the door. We will do everything in our power to give the winners and shortlisted artists the show that they deserve.

When will I know if I have been successful?

The closing date for submissions is 5pm on Sunday 15th May. Everybody, successful or not can expect to hear back by 5pm on Monday 30th May. We are offering each participant the option to opt in for feedback from judges upon submission.

When can I expect to receive feedback?

If you opt in, it will be in the following 1-2 weeks after the winner and shortlisted artists are released.

Will there be support with travel/delivery if I’m successful?

Should you be offered a place in the shortlist show, it will be your responsibility to cover the associated costs for the safe carriage of your work to and from the venue. However, we may consider offering assistance should this prove difficult and will look at this on a case by case basis

What if I can’t afford the entry fee?

We want to make sure the Brixton Art Prize is inclusive, and so if you are from a low income household or receive help from the government, please send us an email at hello@brixtonartprize.com to check your eligibility for a fee free submission.

What are the prizes?

The first prize winner will receive £1000 and a solo show.

Second prize is £750.

Third prize is £500.

A group show for the shortlisted artists will be held at Department Store, Ferndale Road, Brixton, SW9. This will be exhibited from the 30th of June, debuting at the Awards Ceremony at 7pm on this date.
